COVID-19 UPDATE: the Conservancy has cancelled all events for 2020.  Until there is a vaccine, the risks are too great to gather in large groups, and the uncertainty makes it almost impossible to plan.  Cancelling our only fundraiser of the year, Derby Day, will impact our budget, but if our membership continues to grow like it has over the last few years, we will make it through.  Please join the Conservancy as a member or renew your memberships to help us continue to provide timely conservation information, provide important landowner assistance, and to protect Morgan County’s special places.

Please take this short survey and tell us what you’d like to see the Conservancy work on in the next five years.  It’s time for our 2021-2025 Strategic Plan!

Protecting Farms, Forests, and Front Porches for Future Generations

For twenty years, in the midst of the Southeast’s largest and fastest-growing metropolitan area, the Madison-Morgan Conservancy has been protecting farms, forests, and front porches for future generations, successfully protecting critical resources and creating a culture of conservation.  Thanks to its 500+ members and hundreds of donors, Morgan County now boasts of 4,800 acres of permanently protected land, the state’s second largest revolving fund for protecting endangered properties, a Junior Conservancy, and significant gains in natural resource conservation, farmland protection, and historic preservation.

Mission

The mission of the Madison-Morgan Conservancy is to provide public education on conservation matters and to protect and enhance the heritage and quality of life of the residents of Morgan County, by preserving historic sites, greenspace, farmland, and timberland.

Vision

We envision a thriving Morgan County to be a healthy, beautiful place to live and work for current and future residents, where clean air and water, abundant wildlife, forestry, agriculture, and heritage tourism are vital and contribute to the regional economy. We aim to preserve the beautiful public vistas, agrarian heritage, rural crossroads, and small town atmosphere while attracting small to medium sized businesses to provide essential jobs and sustain our balanced tax digest. We envision an organization that makes an impact locally and uses its success to promote conservation and balanced growth throughout Georgia.

Funding has been provided by Georgia Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities as part of the CARES Act economic stabilization plan of 2020. For more information, please visit www.GeorgiaHumanities.org.
