On May 13th, 2014, students in the middle school were served Verner Burgers for lunch for the first phase of a pilot farm-to-school program. Just this year (2017), the program began to build capacity, and plans are in place to procure and serve more local food in the school system. The Superintendent strongly supports this effort and has increased the budget for the procurement of local food. On August 11th, 2017, students will enjoy local peaches from CJ Orchards.
The Farm-to-School program began as a partnership among the Madison-Morgan Conservancy, Kelly Products, Inc., and Morgan County Schools. You now know Kelly Products, Inc. as Farmview Market. Farmview Market is not only a major player in the procurement of local food for our community, they are now doing so for our schools.
